This Gibson Explorer is a reissue of a 1976 model – featuring a mahogany body (as opposed to a ’50s Korina body), dual open coil Gibson humbuckers, and a slim neck profile – also with burst finish. Explorers have long since had a left of center following. They were introduced in the ’50s as one of their push the envelope designs – alongside the Flying V – inspired by the radical influence of space travel. Explorers are often cited for being comfortable to play thanks to its oversized offset body allowing for plenty of room for the player’s picking arm to rest on. They are also loaded with resonance – and they can be seen from the far rows of the venue. Make a statement with this classic axe!
